Finding the Gifts in Grief (Part 1)

Grieving is one of the most difficult experiences that we go through as human beings. Saying goodbye to a loved one and knowing that we must continue on in their absence can be excruciatingly painful. However in this pain, there is a great opportunity for transformation. Just like the symbol of the Phoenix as death and rebirth, the person surviving the loss may find themselves in a great period of growth and expansion, birthing anew. Read more »

Everyday Stress Reduction

My life is not any more stressful than the next person’s, and what I have to say is most likely nothing that you don’t already know. The key to stress reduction is to do whatever it is that you are going to do consistently, even if it is only for 10 minutes a day. Read more »

The Healing Power of Trees and Birds

I sat under my favorite tree in the back yard today doing a distant Reiki healing with eight dogs and one cat. It was wonderful and beautiful. The energy we all felt for each other and gave to each other was healing in every way. We all connected to our hearts. We all learned from each other and helped heal what was needed for each of us. I felt peace and comfort during the Reiki healing. The connection to nature and the tree was strong and powerful. Read more »

Sow the Seeds and Harvest the Bounty

It is that time of year when possibilities are resplendent! Look around. Daffodils are pushing their bright blooms up through the earth to dance in the spring breezes. Hyacinths and tulips are teasing through Mother Earth in search of the gentle kisses of spring showers. Calves, lambs and foals are tentatively teetering on unsure legs in meadows tall with mustard. Winter’s stark trees are awaiting a new cloak of leaves promised by their budding branches. New possibilities are, or at least give the appearance of being, everywhere. Read more »

Opening to Our Spiritual Path

While sitting on the patio the other morning, I watched a large blue jay land on top of the fence. Nothing unusual for a beautiful morning; but as I watched him, I was suddenly struck with, what I call, one of those magical moments of grace. I looked at that blue jay and felt him, felt his spirit. In that instant I knew we were all part of one world of spirit and energy. I smiled and gave gratitude for that moment of magic. These are the times in our lives when we can recognize our spirituality, our oneness, our connection to the world, to the universe. These times can be as simple as watching a sunset over the ocean or as dramatic as watching a child come into the world. Read more »

As a dedicated meditator, yogini, runner, and knitter, I have explored integrating what I have learned from those practices into my everyday life. Our interests in life, those places that have us alive with burning curiosity-even if there are inherent challenges, cultivate both self awareness and qualities that permeate all areas of our life. The Glad Game Turns One Hundred

One of my favorite movies growing up was Walt Disney’s Pollyanna made in 1960. That movie was based on a 1913 novel by Eleanor H. Porter. Pollyanna is an 11-year- old orphan that comes to live with her dour aunt. No matter what happens to Pollyanna, however, she plays the Glad Game she’d learned from her late father, a missionary. The Glad Game has one rule: find the bright side in every situation. Read more »

Does What We Resist Persist?

As another new year begins, I found myself asking this question, so I thought I would explore it. When I think about this term of resistance, I wanted to also explore what might be the opposite energy of receptiveness. The term resistance seems to push against while receptiveness seems to move toward something. As I considered these terms, the first thing that came to mind is the martial art of Aikido. Read more »
