Sow the Seeds and Harvest the Bounty

It is that time of year when possibilities are resplendent!  Look around.  Daffodils are pushing their bright blooms up through the earth to dance in the spring breezes.  Hyacinths and tulips are teasing through Mother Earth in search of the gentle kisses of spring showers. Calves, lambs and foals are tentatively teetering on unsure legs in meadows tall with mustard. Winter’s stark trees are awaiting a new cloak of leaves promised by their budding branches. New possibilities are, or at least give the appearance of being, everywhere.

A Time of Promise
Spring is a time of promise.  Gardeners, or at least some of them, impatiently wait for that last possibility of frost to pass, so they can sow seeds and transplant seedlings that promise nourishment and beauty in the weeks and months to come.  Unable to sink their hands into the moist aromatic soil, they sit with pen, paper and seed catalogues designing the newest layout for their garden and noting with anticipation each new seed and plant that will turn a dream into a reality.

Are You Missing Out?
What about you?  Are you taking advantage of this time to look forward to rejuvenation?  Are there stirrings within you of promises or hopes of new opportunities, new possibilities?  What opportunities are out there?  What possibilities have you been considering or would you consider?  What changes do you want to make?  What changes are being forced upon you and how can you approach them from a different perspective?  What are you anticipating harvesting in the coming weeks, months, even years?

Exploring Through Journaling
Like gardeners who plan and design their gardens during the interim weeks when unexpected frosts can stunt or even kill tender new plants, you too can sit with your journal and begin to sow the seeds and chart the course for change, explore new opportunities and expand on or discard possibilities.

Make the time (note I did not say find the time) to sit with your journal at a specified time in a quiet designated place free from interruption.  Do so at least once a week.  Ask yourself questions; indeed, write each question at the top of the page.  For example, are you dreaming of moving?  Where do you want to live?  What does your new abode look like?  How do you see yourself fitting into the new living space?  Now write down whatever comes to mind in response to each question.  Do not censor your thoughts and your jottings!

If you are unhappy in your employment or your continued employment is uncertain, then plant the seeds for a career change.  What does your perfect career look like?  Where will you carry out this new career?  The only rule is to write down what comes to mind without imposing any judgment.  Keep writing until the thoughts no longer come freely.

If words fail you but you see images, then make sketches.  If you’re challenged even drawing a straight line but you’ve found pictures or other images that reflect your perceptions, paste those into your journal.  Combine words and images.  Your journal is just that—yours.  Journals are, literally and figuratively, blank pages.  It is up to you to bring your journal to life with your thoughts, musings, ideas, illustrations, indeed your deepest yearnings.

Sow Your Seeds; Unleash Your Possibilities
Just as a gardener plans her garden and then, in anticipation of bringing it to life, digs in the earth and sows her seeds giving rise to the harvesting of summer’s bounty, so, too, can you.  Through journaling, you can plant seeds of change and possibility. Dig into your thoughts and desires bringing to life opportunities, and take steps to harvest the bounty that is you!
