Lisa Syndrome

I have known my friend Lisa for more than 30 years. When she walks into a room, it’s as if a mega watt light switch is turned on. She has an infectious laugh and is an amazing dancer. She’s a swimmer, a cook, an animal lover. She cares about and loves the people in her life as much as she does herself. She never second guesses herself, takes compliments graciously and speaks about herself confidently yet humbly. She accepts herself.

She’s worked at and is happy working for the same company for almost 20 years. I don’t think I’ve ever heard her complain. When I connect with her, no matter what my mood is, I feel uplifted and loved. I don’t think she’s ever gone on a retreat, read a self help book or focused on self improvement. All I know is that she radiates pure happiness, love and joy.

Lisa has Down’s Syndrome, but that’s not what I notice about her.  All I notice is that she emanates the purity and beauty of her Essence naturally. She doesn’t block the flow of life to her. Lisa doesn’t think there is anything “wrong” with her. She focuses on everything that is right with her, her life and the world. She is the happiest person that I know.

She inspires me regularly because she is not plagued by the voice of her ego or small self. She reminds me that life was not supposed to be a struggle. It was meant to be joyful, playful, jubilant. To put a smile on my face, I created this little mnemonic as a reminder that I want to live my life consciously, allowing as much light and joy to flow into my everyday existence.
