Life: Linear or Circular?

As always I love articles, like this one by Martha Beck, that make you think and examine things in a new way. Beck uses a labyrinth as a metaphor for life. We think of our life as a journey that should be linear. We should always be moving forward, but Beck asks us to reexamine this notion.

She asks us to appreciate that life does not always move in a linear fashion, nor should it. We often find ourselves doubling back to old situations, reexamining old hurts, emotions and losses. We chastise ourselves for this, but there can be a purpose in it. We often are revisiting these places because we still need to learn from them and because they are all a part of who we are.

So if you feel like you are walking a labyrinth, relax into it and learn to appreciate it. Life often unfolds in a circular manner.
